Back-End Web Development
Hello people, Here I am back with the back-end web development roadmap. But to go deep into this topic, you should first go through the Front-end web development roadmap.
Introduction.
The back end consists of all components a typical user does not interact with, this includes databases, servers, application logic, and APIs. Back-end developers create this infrastructure and work to ensure these components function properly. The back-end is extremely important because it defines the correct operation of the entire technical background of a given application or website.
What does a back-end developer do?
- User authentication: Making sure that the user’s account details are correct, that he has the necessary permission to see what he’s about to see, etc.
- Order handling: How an order you make on the website is processed to make sure that there aren’t any mistakes.
- Optimization: Making sure that every piece of functionality the website has not only works but does it in the fastest way possible.
- Maintaining databases, including data storage and retrieval, organization, backups, and security.
- Finding and fixing bugs in the back-end code.
- Managing any APIs the company uses to integrate applications, both externally and internally.
- Conducting performance optimization to increase efficiency and improve the user experience.
- Securing the Website/application from cyberattacks.
Back-end development skills.
Knowledge of Backend Programming Languages:
You don’t necessarily need to have a stronghold on multiple languages. As long as you’re good with one language, that’s enough. There are various languages such as Java, Python, PHP, Ruby, C#, and many more but Java and Python are the commonly used languages by professionals.
Knowledge of Backend Frameworks:
Once you’ve decided the language which you need to work upon, you need to brush up skills with the framework as well. The framework is a backbone of a language on a program/application on which you’re working. Some of the widely used frameworks are- Node.js, Express.js, and Django. Django framework is compatible with the Python programming language.
Knowledge of Version control systems:
It is also known as the source control which is responsible for any changes that have to be done from time to time. The version control system tracks every single modification of codes in a different database. Some of the popular version control systems are- AWS code commit, GitHub, and GitLab.
Knowledge of Databases:
Websites require databases to store and retrieve client data. As a backend developer, managing databases is a crucial component of your role. A neatly organized database helps to alter, recover and manage data efficiently. To handle DBMS one should use SQL and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.
Knowledge of APIs:
APIs, or Application Programming Interfaces, take requests from users and clients and send them to the server. They form the basis of client and server interaction and also serve as mediums for interactions between servers. The most popular APIs among developers are JSON, SOAP, REST, GSON, etc.
Knowledge of Server Handling:
A developer should gain some knowledge about what are servers, what are the various types of servers, how do they work, and their role in developing websites/applications.
Back-end development tools.
The tools that you must master to build a successful career in back-end development are as follows:
- Postman API
- Firebase
- Heroku
- GitHub
- GitLab
- Kubernetes
- Pivotal Tracker
- Datadog
- Slack
- Jira
